Vet ClinicCheck

How we verify

Vet Clinic Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

California: the Department of Consumer Affairs publishes the Veterinary Medical Board's license file once a month. Every week we look up the current file in DCA's public data folder and keep Veterinary Premises registrations with status Current, an unexpired date and a California address.

Florida: every week we download DBPR's veterinary medicine licensing extract and keep veterinary establishment premises permits (class VE) with status Current and a Florida address. Address lines that carry the responsible veterinarian's name or an "attention" line are removed.

Some chains register their hospitals at a head-office address. Where five or more premises with three or more different names share one street address, or the address is an "attention: business licensing" line, the file doesn't say where the hospital is, so we leave the record out rather than place it at the head office. Premises with only an out-of-state address are left out for the same reason. Individual veterinarians are never listed.

"Licensed since" is the date the state first issued the registration or permit for that premises. Clinic types (emergency, mobile, equine, shelter) come only from words in the registered name; call to confirm services and hours. Order within a city: longest-licensed first, then alphabetical.

Neither file has phone numbers, hours, services or disciplinary history. We never mark a hospital as unlicensed: one missing here may be registered at a head-office address, under another name, or licensed after our last refresh. Featured hospitals appear in a separate, labelled box and never change the order.

What a badge means

Premises licensed: the hospital's veterinary premises registration (California Veterinary Medical Board, status Current and unexpired) or veterinary establishment premises permit (Florida DBPR, status Current) appears in the state's public licensing file. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-16. DCA publishes California's Veterinary Medical Board file once a month and DBPR updates Florida's extract regularly; we re-pull both every week.
